Boat
Visit Greater Oslo features beautiful lakes and a lovely long coastline on both side of the Oslo Fjord. Travel by boat is often efficient, and sometimes the best method of transport if you want to experience the county’s hidden gems.
Oscarsborg Fortress is only reached by boat. If you do not have your own boat, you are welcome aboard the Norwegian Armed Forces’ MS Oscarsborg II. In Romerike in the summer season, it is possible to take beautiful round trips with either the MS Øyeren at Nordre Øyeren and Glomma, or the Skibladner at Mjøsa. It is also possible to hop off at stops along the way if you have plans to visit other locations. The Nesoddfergene ferries travel between Oslo/Lysaker and Nesoddtangen all year round. In the summer, some of these ferries travel all the way along Nesoddlandet and on to Oscarsborg Fortress, Drøbak and Son.
Oscarsborg II
With frequent daily departures, the Oscarsborg II transports guests and visitors from the mainland to Oscarsborg Fortress. The ferry takes approximately 10 minutes from Drøbak. The ferry leaves from Sundbrygga on the land side all year round, and from Drøbak town centre at weekends and during the summer season. For more information about ferry times and ticket prices, see Oscarsborg Fortress.
Skibladner
Mjøsa’s white swan still ploughs majestically on Norway’s largest lake. The beautiful paddle steamer from 1856 is the oldest in the world that is still in operation. You can choose which quay you would like to start your journey from. In Romerike, Eidsvoll is the departure location. In addition to the regular timetabled service, it is also possible to hire the ship for charter trips and companies. For more information, see Skibladner.
MS Øyeren and Elvekogen
The MS Øyeren departs from Lillestrøm or Fetsund Lensemuseum and sails to Glomma and into Nordre Øyeren Nature Reserve, which also constitutes the Nordic region’s largest inland delta. MS Øyeren is a restaurant boat, with both indoor and outdoor seating. For timetables and more information, see MS Øyeren. You can also go by boat from Årnes with Elvekongen both on the river GLomma and Vorma - where you also can expirence a canal lock.
