Day 1 – Karlstad

Ulvsby Manor

Here, you'll live amidst history dating back to the 16th century.

Queen Christina owned it in the 17th century, and Selma Lagerlöf wrote about the manor in the novel "Gösta Berling's Saga."

Day 2

Mårbacka

Sahlströmsgården

Approximately a 45-minute drive from Mårbacka

Welcome to a unique exhibition.

Sahlströmsgården in the idyllic Utterbyn in Torsby is a piece of Swedish cultural and art history.

Here, you can combine art and recreation, good food, and cozy accommodation.

Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes before reaching Magnor and Vestre.

After crossing the border, Magnor Glassworks awaits, established in 1896, where several generations of skilled glassworkers have shaped the history of the glassworks. Here, you can experience glass art and design.

Next, the journey takes you to The Plus, Vestre Furniture Factory – one of the world's most environmentally friendly furniture factories.

Vestre's furniture can be found all over the world, and The Plus, as the factory is called, is a gem in itself. Here, you can take a guided tour of the factory, walk on the roof, and enjoy furniture placed in nature, tailored for Hans Børli's poetry path. It's an exciting and different world in the deep forests right by the Swedish border and Magnor.

For lunch, you can choose to eat at Vestre or at Magnor Glassworks.

Festningen Hotel & Resort

The next stop on the tour is Kongsvinger Fortress – here, you can take a well-deserved rest and stay overnight at the old fortress from 1673. Dinner and a tour here are an experience. At the same time, you can watch the Glomma River flow by and overlook the vast forests towards Sweden.

Day 3

After a good night's sleep, you drive towards Lillestrøm. Here, you can visit Nitja – a modern art center focusing on contemporary art – and enjoy a delicious lunch in their café. Elvebredden Kunstpark is worth a stroll – here, you'll find 11 different artworks along the Nitelva River.

Here, you can choose to head up to the art hotel Quality Hotel Olavsgaard – for a good night's sleep. The entire hotel has with pictures, books, and artworks. Additionally, they have a good restaurant and bar. Alternatively, you can choose to visit Losby Gods with its unique history and outdoor decorations by Nico Widerberg – he has created several artworks in the garden symbolizing all the forest workers.

Day 4

The next morning, you can choose to stop by Galleri Würth, just a few minutes away. The collection here belongs to one of the largest private collections in Europe – the exhibition changes, and you can see works from Picasso to our own Edvard Munch.

Then, you drive northward, and on the way to Hurdalsjøen Hotel, you pass Kepler's Star at the exit to Oslo Airport Gardermoen – here, you can choose to drive towards Eidsvoll and visit Eidsvoll 1814 before heading to Wergelandshaugen with its own sculpture park and various artists hosting changing exhibitions indoors. There's a café called Amalies Have with tasty dishes – if you're not staying overnight here, you can visit Hurdalsjøen Hotel, where they have their own garden filled with outdoor art, a wine cellar, a restaurant, and a spa.
