Family activities

Happy kids, happy family. We offer a variety of activities suitable for everyone, with or without skis our skilled instructors are happy to teach you the basics so that you can’t help but wanting to try it again the next day.

Our region has several alpine slopes with great children and beginner area with skilled instructors and ski rental. The biggest resort being Varingskollen, just outside of Oslo and near the airport. A fun family park with slopes for every level – alpine and snowboard, a terrain park and ski school. Great family fun in a safe environment for every skill and level.

Why not try skiing in the dark? It is magical with the white snow hanging on to the trees, the scenery changes totally. In many places you find 5-10 km cross-country slopes with lights until late in the evening. The tracks are prepped every so often and always kept in a very good condition. You are most likely to find a suitable slope next to your accommodation. Cross-country skiing is suitable for all levels and in the north of the region you will find snow and skiing possibilities from October until May.

Not tempted to have “sticks” on your feet? Get out and explore snowshoeing. Walk anywhere – like walking on clouds –it is easy and allows you to explore nature in a totally new way. Allow yourself a treat – bring hot toddy and a nice lunch accompanied by chocolate and find a sunny place to enjoy lunch in nature. You are even allowed to make a campfire to keep you warm. Maybe you’ll discover the footprints of moose, birds, hare and other wild life.

Ice skating on frozen lakes, rivers and the fjord is magical and great family fun. The scenery opens up and people of all ages are indulging in this activity. You might want to try the unique way of ice fishing as well. 

To help your balance – use ski poles or the traditional “spark” ,kicksled, for support. Go out and try, what a thrill to master a new skill. There are also organized skating rings, often connected to local schools and sports arenas.

Outdoor activities

Our visitor farms are happy to guide you and bring you along for dog sledging tours, walking with alpacas or horseback riding on snowy trails. A vast variety of winter activities are available to you.

Hiking is among the local favorite activities. Our region is filled with peaks where you can enjoy great view over the local community and the Oslo fjord. Follow the forest road and the signed paths. Tours can be done by foot or bring snow shoes to get you out of the beaten track. Remember to bring your “matpakke” – snack pack. Many hiking trails lead to popular huts in the forest serving fresh pastry, hot drinks and small meals.

Bring out your inner Viking. Enjoy a hot sauna overlooking the serene scenery and finish it off  with a refershing bath in the Oslo fjord or the lake. You’d be surprised how thrilled and energized you’ll feel afterwards.  This activity has become very popular all year around. 

Walking by the coast path along the Oslo fjord is perfect any time of year - you can walk for hours overlooking the fjord, exploring the marine life, discovering fossils from more than 400 billion years ago of octopus and trilobitt. The paths take you through unspoilt nature, residential ares, between charming villages and by cultural places of interest.

Why not visit the Eagels and the seals in their natural habitat. By RIB safari on the Oslofjord you can do that, our guides will guide you through the history of the area and bring you on a seal and eagel safari. The pace of the boat is adapted to the group, slow, fast or faster in agreement with the guests. The Oslofjord is also perfect kayaking also in the winter.

Indoor Activities

Norway’s only indoor skiing arena SNØ have both alpine-, cross-country, snowboard slopes as well as an ice climbing facilities.

Fly into the sky. Two facilities with wind tunnels are also situated near Gardermoen airport. A fun activity park for adults and children with Megazone, mazes, activity park and 6D cinema as well as a variety of VR experiences and simulators and AR climbing wall. Great fun for children of all ages.

We have more than 30 museums and historic places telling the history of Norwegian industrialism, the start of democracy and Norwegian independence. Discover our interactive museum which tells the tale of the Norwegian oil and technology era.

The largest shopping centers are situated in this region, with a variety of fashion, interior and local products. The Fashion Outlet offers more than 150 fashion brands at discounted prices.

Our region is easily accessible, surrounding the capital of Oslo to the west, the south and to the north.  Oslo Airport Gardermoen is located in the northern region just 20 minutes by train from the center of Oslo. Arriving by ferry the national roads take you effectively to your destination in any time from 5-20 minutes.
