Get excited by our art and history!

The contrast between nature and modernity has always inspired artists and is easily enjoyed in the Greater Oslo region. A wide range of art attractions suitable for all ages are found in outdoor art, sculpture parks, street art, personal collections and small cozy galleries - most of them free to the public.

The Sculpture Park outside Henie Onstad Art Center West of Oslo has about twenty sculptures in scenic surroundings along the coastal path (There is also a beach nearby!).

Next door at Sjøholmen, is Jason Taylor's underwater sculpture project to create new artificial reefs. Two sculptures can be seen on the jetty while the rest are under water. If you are not a freediver you can take a closer look at the posters in the park next to Sjøholmen house.

The sculpture park at Bærums Verk is the country's leading collection of Norwegian. It’s set idyllically along the river, amongst ancient wooden buildings on historic grounds.

37 figure heads from Fred Olsen Lines ships in the period between 1938-1976 are made famous by Norwegian artists and can be explored in Hvitsten.

A small hidden gem is Galleri Würth at Gjelleråsen. With free admission, you will see world class contemporary art from Europe’s largest private collection.

Not too much further north in Lillestrøm city you will find the new Nitja art gallery  – an exhibition venue for contemporary art  (Opened in May 2021).

Our main historical sites have played an important role in building a democratic Norway and securing our independence. Eidsvoll 1814 where our constitution was written and signed in 1814 - and Oscarsborg Fortress which played a significant role in delaying the invasion of Norway during the World War 2.
